A Team Fitness America Segment Of Eating And The Holiday Buldge

Every holiday we declare that we will try to eat healthy throughout the month of December, but most of us give up even before Thanksgiving. The office cookies, the after work parties, the food gifts from clients, the kid’s Christmas events, and then our own family celebrations all add up in calories. Thoughts of sugar plums literally dance in our heads all week and the entire concept of eating healthy goes right out the window.

Then we get smart and make a deal with ourselves. We declare that we can eat unhealthy for the next few weeks (we justify it by saying it is a holiday after all and we do work hard all year) but after the first of the year we promise to embark on a health and fitness plan. Every year we make the same promise and somewhere around February and March we go right back into the bad habits. We justify the bad eating again with the excuse that it is Easter or Spring and then Mothers day or summer. So how can we break that vicious cycle of never really getting our bad habits under control?

7 Team Fitness America ways to stop the holiday buldge from overtaking your life:

1. When you know you have a Christmas party to go to, eat before you go. If you are full you will be less likely to scarf down the appetizers and main entrée. Eat sparingly or just have a few appetizers and a small dessert, that way you do not offend your guests but still get to enjoy the tastes of the evening. We all know whom the person is that stands next to the food all night and has to try everything. Focus on not being that person and just opt to taste the different foods and not eat a full meal.

2. Hire a personal trainer now. That is right, before the holidays. Start working out now and you will begin to feel and see the results so when you reach for that eggnog you will remember how hard you worked out and how much harder you need to work out tomorrow just to burn off those empty calories. If you know you have to be held accountable with a personal trainer as well you will be less likely to over indulge knowing that he or she will ask you to fess up tomorrow when you see them.

3. Don’t eat what the kids eat. They have a high metabolism and sometimes it seems easy to just serve yourself a plate of macaroni and cheese or a handful of chicken nuggets at lunch and not eat a healthy meal because you are pressed for time. Plan your meals and know where you will be when hunger strikes. If you have a day of shopping planned, add in your favorite healthy spot to eat. It will give you something to look forward to plus you won’t blow your entire day of calories on one fast food burger and fries. If you have to speed shop and wrap and really don’t have time for a meal, skip the fast food joints and grab a protein bar. Convenience stores, gas stations and even Walmart or Target you are probably shopping in will sell them as a quick solution to solve your hunger issue.

4. Realize that high calorie, high sugar and high starch foods will make you cranky. With all the shopping, wrapping, planning, entertaining, cleaning and travel you have planned, the last thing you want to be is cranky and not be able to enjoy the holidays. Eat healthy all day and allot for that one bad thing you will have out at a party or at work.

5. Do a holiday cookie bake and give most of them away. This way you and the kids can enjoy the art and tradition of holiday baking but give most as gifts or take them into work for others to enjoy as well. Having tons of cakes and cookies lying around the house is not helpful if you want to stick to a diet. You can also bake and donate it to the local homeless shelter as well.

6. Keep healthy snacks and sugar free/fat free desserts on hand. If you want to make a big dessert for the family do so but make a healthy variety as well. There are tons of fat free cheesecake and low fat or sugar free cake recipes online. Find one and try it out. If you have the girls over for a holiday get together serve both. You will be surprised at how many people will try a low fat or sugar free dessert over a full fat variety if it is offered.

7. If you are hosting dinner at your place, make just enough holiday foods for the party and a few leftovers. Send home the cookies, cakes and unhealthy foods with the guests and leave the salads and lean meats for you for lunch and snacks the next day.

Most of all, start thinking healthy now and you will not overeat and indulge all week.

5 Sure Fire Ways To Sabotage Your Fitness Program

Embarking on a fitness program can be a daunting task and it takes dedication along with commitment to follow through and implement a new lifestyle. We start out with the best of intentions and somehow end with wondering what we did wrong and how we did not seem to reach that goal. Whether you joined a gym, bought a piece of home fitness equipment, or hired a personal fitness trainer, you can still sabotage your plan to be fit and healthy if you do not develop a proper plan of action. Here are 5 Team Fitness America sure fire ways to ruin your fitness program.

1. Setting goals too high. It’s great to be excited and to be motivated to reach your goal as fast as possible, but when you set your goal too high, then you make it very easy to get discouraged if you do not reach it fast enough. If you weigh 280 pounds and you want to be 110 pounds that is a great goal, but one that will take time. Give yourself time to reach that goal; do not expect to lose such a significant amount of weight in a short time span. Remember, you did not get to your current weight overnight and you will not be thin overnight. It will take time, dedication and some good old fashioned sweat.

2. Continue to eat fatty, high caloric foods. You can work out all you want but if your diet does not change then all of the hard work will not pay off. If you do not burn more calories than what you consume then you will not find much success with your weight loss program. Hire a nutritionist or subscribe to an online nutritional program where you can track your progress, get a food shopping list, use a daily journal, plug in food you like, or even talk to a live coach.

3. Waiting until 90 days before a big event to decide to get into shape. A lot of events we want to look our absolute best for. These include: weddings parties, class reunions, family vacations, cruises, etc. Plan ahead or you will realize that in 90 days you will need to seriously overhaul your diet and exercise routine. It goes back to setting that realistic goal. Some of us do work well under pressure but if you are trying to do it in a short time span be prepared to put your life into overdrive. This is the stage of unrealistic time frame setting that ruins most of our fitness goals and coupled with an unrealistic goal we end up quitting our fitness program altogether. Plan ahead, if you know the event is coming do not wait until the last minute to get ready for it.

4. Starting a diet or exercise program on a Monday. Everyone thinks that waiting until Monday to start a good diet program is a great idea, but in reality it is not. By Friday you are worn down and tired of salad and exercising. You want to go to happy hour, hit the pizza bar or the fast food drive though and eat and eat. Start a diet program on a Friday. Yes, a Friday. That way you are already in relax mode and when you go out Friday night you order something healthy. It will set the precedent for the entire weekend and week following. Monday will not be dreaded and you will learn that eating is a lifestyle choice not a dreaded chore. By the following weekend the desire to overeat and drink will not be as strong since you are working on a “lifestyle makeover” and not a crash diet.

5. Convincing yourself “there is not enough time for me to exercise”. There are 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week that equals 168 hours in a week and you need to use at least 3 of those. That leaves you 165 other hours for sleep, work, family, events etc. Everyone can find 3 hours in a week, even if it is only 30 min at a time for exercise. If you are super pressed for time, hire a personal fitness trainer to come to your doorstep. You simply put on workout clothes and answer the door. The trainer will bring all the equipment you need to exercise with, set up shop in your living room, spare bedroom, garage, porch or anywhere you want to work out and get down to business. No travel time, no sitter needed, no waiting for machines, basically no excuses. In home trainers also are great if you are the type to come home to change and sit down and decide you are not leaving to go to the gym because you are too tired from work. With a personal fitness trainer knocking on your door you have nowhere to hide.

Sticking to a fitness routine can be daunting and stressful but if you have the proper resources, the right support team and a good clear picture of your goals you can not only get to your goal weight and shape but you can stay there.

6 Team Fitness America Ways Improper Food Balances Can Keep You Overweight

As Americans, we are inundated with a wide variety of food choices with many different kinds of things to eat. Generally our common sense kicks in at some point, but usually too late after we have already committed to eating unnecessary calories. We know that chips and cake are not the best choices, but they still seem to play a major role in our every day lives. We know that overeating is bad and fast food can be even worse, so we avoid these things and do our best to eat healthy. But did you know that not eating meals, skipping meals or eating too little can make you overweight?

Not eating a proper balance of fats, proteins, or carbohydrates will send the body into “starvation mode” thus making the body hold and store fat because it thinks that it may not be fed again for some time. You hear people say “I just can’t lose any weight and I don’t eat” all the time. These are the same people that skip breakfast, eat a small salad for lunch, or one meal the whole day of chicken with rice for dinner. You may hear others say “I eat so healthy and my body still won’t drop weight”. These are only two examples of how we cause our weight to remain high and our bodies to remain in constant survival mode. The following are the 6 Team Fitness America sure fire ways to stay overweight, which of course is what we don’t want to do.

Portioning food to the extreme or restricting food when we are hungry.

Portioning food beyond normal is not good or restricting food consumption when we are hungry is even worse and will only bring binge eating later in the day. Weighing and measuring everything that you consume will psychologically affect you as much as physically. When you insist on carrying your food in plastic baggies that you weighed earlier for exact amounts will leave you prone to feeling hungry and stressed. Stressing out the endocrine system will make your cortisol levels fluctuate thus making your body remain overweight. Create a balanced meal plan while including some things that you like to eat. Take on a belief that anything in moderation is not a bad thing but don’t take it beyond control and think that eating fried foods in moderation is still okay. Over obsessing by restricting yourself too much about your foods will take a toll on your psyche and you will notice that you are not losing weight.

Restricting too much food.

By not eating certain foods (avocado due to fat or bananas due to starch) you limit the vitamins and minerals that the body will obtain from food and limit the body’s ability to lose weight by restricting the vitamins it can have. Taking over the counter vitamins and minerals is a great compliment to your diet but not a substitute. There are foods like avocado and peanut butter that are often over looked for their nutritional properties because their fat contact is high. The point is that there is good fat content that your body needs to function properly and burn more fat.

Buying prepackaged meals.

Precooked and frozen meals that you buy in the grocery store have a lot of salt and preservatives. The human body will bloat and retain water from excess salt. So if you have a prepackaged breakfast, prepackaged lunch and prepackaged dinner each day you will soon feel bloated and heavy. Your body can not simply process all that salt. Even if you are counting calories, fats and carbs, you will still consume more salt in one meal with prepackaged meals than what the body needs in one day. Read your labels carefully and pick and chose premade products on a very selective level. Substitute healthy, real, fresh foods for those packaged meals. You can also prep meals at home from your own kitchen so you know what is in each meal and how much salt to add is purely up to you.

Skipping Breakfast.

Missing breakfast is like not putting any fuel in your car when your gas tank is empty and expecting your car to run perfectly. We all know that the car will simply just stop running and you will be calling for someone to help fetch gas. Your body operates the same way. Sometimes we avoid breakfast and don’t feed our bodies the proper nutrients until later in the day or we end up over eating at night or simply not getting enough food throughout the day. Your body can not run properly in that manner. It needs good clean fuels to make it go, just like the car.

Counting calories to the nanogram.

Again, if you are so obsessed with your weight that you need to cut off even one calorie and write them all down you will be over obsessing about your calorie intake and again your cortisol will fluctuate and the stress on your body will cause you to not lose weight. You could find yourself searching for comfort foods due to the stress of putting too much pressure to stick to an exact calorie amount. Come up with a good number to stay around (your fitness trainer can assist you with this for your fitness level) and do not stress if you had a few calories over the limit. A bit more exercise will burn those right off.

Eating or not eating before you workout with your personal trainer.

If you do not eat a light protein and carb balanced snack about two hours before your workout you will be lethargic and not able to perform the exercises at full ability. If you eat too much food prior to the workout you will feel nauseous and not want to workout at all. Living a true fitness experience each workout to the best of its capability requires a proper balance of proteins and cabs to maximize your true potential. If you aren’t sure what to eat or when to eat, ask your fitness specialist and they can give you a few great foods to try.

Knowing what and when to eat or what combinations of foods to eat when you workout is the key to having a continual, healthy weight loss plan.

The Team Fitness America 4 Essential Things You Need To Workout

From “the ski machine” to “the ab roller”, we have seen exercise equipment come into stores and quickly leave only to be replaced by the newest or latest craze in “essential” workout gear. As consumers we have the duty of sifting through all the brands, styles and types of exercise equipment while deciphering what works and what doesn’t for us specifically. All while keeping price and storage space in mind.

For those of us that are self proclaimed couch potatoes, it can be difficult to figure out what pieces might complete a good home gym or what pieces might simply work for just our body type. The treadmill is the most popular piece of equipment and seems to adorn most homes as a glorified coat rack. As consumers we spend all that money on a piece of equipment only to let it sit and collect dust. The other issue that we have is where to store the equipment when it is not in use. A treadmill or universal gym is big and bulky while taking up space. Plus, if you travel, you are forced to leave it behind to collect dust and taunt you when you return. The following are 4 Team Fitness America ideas of what to buy that will actually be a great investment and what you will get the most use of.

4. Stability Ball (Investment - $29.99 Target) - An air filled stability ball is a great investment that you can use for everything from balance to weight lifting. You can do crunches, chest press, shoulder press (in combination with resistance bands or weights), Pilates, core workouts, and squats on the wall. You can target balance specific exercises and even get a full cardio rhythm workout. By making the stability ball the core of your home gym setup, you will develop a total body workout through a combination of resistance based exercises, cardio, balance, and flexibility from just one inexpensive piece of equipment. An added bonus is that this ball deflates for easy storage, packing and can also double as a chair if you sit at the computer for long periods of time (think better posture and more core-building support work while you are sitting).

3. Resistance Bands (Investment - $12.99-$39.99 Sports Authority) - With bands being essential for any home fitness or traveling program, they vary in resistance for all levels and you can buy up to 5 in a box. If you live in a flat, studio or small apartment these are the staple points and foundation of your home gym system. If you travel for work or pleasure and don’t want the hassle of dealing with locating where the local gyms are to pay a daily use fee, throw these bands into your suitcase and off you go. You can do various exercises ranging from bicep curls to chest press (with stability ball), shoulder extensions, back and lat pull downs (using the door frame), lunges, triceps extensions and even assisted stretching and balancing for yoga and Pilates. You can use the bands alone or assisted with a partner workout and you can even throw them in as a circuit training station in place of weights.

2. Weights (Investment – Varies) - For those of us that are into toning and gaining muscle, a good set of block weights is a great investment, but skip the weight benches and plate loaded machines that run in into the thousands of dollars. The easiest to store, carry and most economical for limited space is the “Power Block Dumbbell’. These run about $250-$300 for a brand new set and can be a great investment if you must have weights, skip the added extras like a bench, mats or stands and you will keep the cost low. Use your stability ball as the bench to work your core muscles and your targeted muscles. With a set of good weights you will be able to adjust them for yourself as you find the need for added resistance. You can do all the traditional exercises with half the space needed and simply slide them under the bed or in the closet when done.

1. In Home Personal Trainer - The best and most convenient way to get fit at home is to buy personal training lessons from a certified, qualified in home personal trainer. Why waste your time on expensive boring equipment when you can get a great personal trainer to show you how to execute the proper exercises using the above equipment. If you do not want to buy any equipment, then a personal trainer from a company like Team Fitness America will come to you and bring the equipment making it so that you do not need to buy any on your own. No storing equipment, no dust collecting equipment, they come to you, work you out and leave with all of the equipment. They can even show you body weight exercises and cardio exercises that require no equipment and generate fantastic results.

We all have the cousin or family member that swears by their treadmill, but it may really not work for you. Besides, who pays to walk? You can walk for free outside or when it is cold simply follow one of the great programs that your in home personal trainer helped you develop for continuing results. Skip the expensive treadmill, get a few pieces of portable, storable equipment and hire the personal trainer to show you how to use it.

Having been successful with placing personal trainers in homes and corporate settings throughout America, they are branching out to staffing health clubs, exercise studios and small gyms with both qualified fitness trainers and sales consultants to grow the club while assisting clients in reaching their fitness goals. After years of perfecting the art of in home and on location training, they have finally branched out to the next natural phase of the fitness business.

Team Fitness America’s Fitness Center Management division, lead by Director of Operations Dave Giordano, includes staffing the facility with qualified, background checked personal trainers that have experience training clients while providing measurable results. They take staffing the club one step further and place a Fitness Manager into each club to assist with the increase of sales inside the club.

Branching out into managing and staffing health clubs was an easy progression for Team Fitness America. There objective is to offer the same stellar quality of fitness services at the Health Club, studio or small gym that they currently offer to their in home clients. Part of the goal is to also assist individual Health Club owners that may not have the background knowledge or time to make their club stand out from their competition by offering an organized personal training and sales department.

World Gym Philadelphia’s personal training department is the first club to be officially announced under Team Fitness America’s Fitness Center Management program. Team Fitness America has already negotiated agreements with three other health clubs soon to be announced in cities such as Chicago, Phoenix, and Philadelphia.

Team Fitness America is currently offering a one-time promotion to members of World Gym Philadelphia where they can have their very own personal trainer at a discounted special of 3 sessions for $99. Team Fitness America 7 Things Done Psychologically To Get Thin That Backfire

Each one of us sets out with a plan to get into shape and be thin. For some of us that means strict food intakes and daily exercise on the treadmill. For those of us that are not so disciplined we hire an in home personal trainer and nutritional consultant to make us workout and learn the proper way to eat and work off those calories in a safe manner. But even the best of us can fall trap to a psychological pitfall that sabotages our good intentions. Below are the Team Fitness America 7 things we do psychologically to make ourselves thin that backfire.

1. Buy smaller clothes - We have all been at the sale rack where the cutest dress is half off and also half your size but you buy it for the “Day I fit into it”. This is the dress that ends up in the closet for the next few years until you finally donate it or give it away. Buying an item of clothing that is smaller than what you actually wear and hoping that “someday” you will fit into it will only make you upset for not being able wear the cute item. The best thing you can do is not buy it! Working on the goal of weight loss first will ensure that once you buy it, you are happy with it, and you will feel good wearing it. Save the smaller clothes for when you actually can wear them and buy them as a reward for the weight loss after you obtain the goal.

2. Use smaller dishes - Using a smaller dish for your meal is a great idea but if you find yourself piling the food twice as high or needing to have seconds then you simply defeated the purpose. Instead of eating half the junk food, you could be eating twice as much good and healthy food while using the same size plate as everyone else at the table. Trying to psychologically trick your brain into thinking that you ate a large portion of food can backfire especially if you are still hungry. You will overeat in the long run and not feel as satisfied. Stick to the normal size plate, just make better food choices.

3. Drink water before a meal - Drinking several glasses of water before a meal, we are told, can make us feel full. While in reality, drinking several glasses of water per day is already ideal, but you also need to eat a balanced meal and receive nutrients from real food. If you drink water before every meal, you will short change yourself on eating proper amounts of food. Save the water for in between meals or when you have the urge to snack.

4. Eat healthy all week then cheat because it is the weekend - This seems to be so prevalent that popular diet plans now have “cheat meals” and “cheat days”. If you allow yourself to think that you can only cheat at a certain meal or on a certain day of the week, then you will inevitability overeat on that day and quite possibly starve yourself all week. This will lead to the “yo- yo dieting” and binge eating that is so common today. Many nutritionists will argue that cheat eating on the weekend will spike your metabolism into overdrive, but instead take a look at staying on track every day. There is a risk that eating a cheat meal or having a cheat day can draw you back into poor eating habits. Proper guidance will show you that some things in moderation are okay to eat while trying to follow a healthy meal plan.

5. Divide your clothes closet into different sections for “fat days and thin days” - Every woman may gain or lose a few pounds over the years but some women will lose or gain several sizes over the course of a few years while keeping an entire closet full of clothes from single to double digits. This develops a feeling that makes it okay to gain a clothes size because there is always clothes to wear whether you go up or down. Instead, set the standard, pick the clothes size, and stay within it so that you never offer yourself excuses.

6. Buying individual snacks or low cal foods and then eating the entire box - In the grocery store you think you are making the right decision when you buy that low calorie popcorn or bag of cookies. When you get home and eat the whole box “because it is sugar free, fat free, or low calorie” you just ended up defeating the purpose. A lot of the time we set out with good intentions but sabotage ourselves with the idea low calorie or fat free is actually healthy.

7. Using the word “diet” - Telling all of your friends that you are on a diet, simply sets you up for a failure when someone brings brownies to the office. If you restrain yourself, you will crave them while probably buying a chocolate laden dessert on the way home from work or having a brownie leading to explain to everyone why you went off your diet. It is simply much better to be able to have a small piece of the brownie like everyone else without having to make excuses for your behavior or worrying about binging on the way home because you denied yourself a treat.

Being able to identify things that we do to sabotage our weight loss goals will help in the long run. If you are unsure how, when, or what is best to eat then you need professional fitness assistance. An in home personal trainer can come and teach you about good healthy food choices, help you with exercise and help you break some of the behaviors that sabotage your living healthy plan.

Briscoe’s goals for her clients are based on her motto, “fitness should be a fun challenge of good health and a lifelong commitment to wellness, and this is the key for success.”

Briscoe has also studied specialty training in kettle bells, Pilates, urban rebound and kickboxing. She can incorporate her background in Middleastern and Latin dance to make the cardio routines of her client’s fun and challenging.

Team Fitness America Talks About Teens Versus Obesity

With parents working longer hours to support their families, many have turned to feeding their children fast food or quick, prepackaged meals. Coupled in with the fact that school lunch programs do not provide adequate nutrition and gym classes that occur a mere two hours a week, a rise in childhood and teen obesity has occurred.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 32% of our teens are overweight and 19% of those are obese. Teens are now susceptible to heart disease, heart attacks, diabetes and even cancer among other diseases that they should not have to deal with at their age. In addition, many teens are ridiculed if they are overweight and cannot keep up with their smaller, faster peers. As a parent, no one wants to see their child made fun of or have to sit in a hospital room while their child gets dialysis because of food they were fed.

Parents can no longer expect schools to teach their children nutrition and exercise, they must take matters into their own hands to ensure that their child will not become overweight and be at risk for these deadly diseases. But what can parents that have almost no time at all do to help their child lose weight or stay in shape? Hire an in home personal trainer of course!

A busy parent simply does not have an extra hour to spare. Sending a personal trainer direct to the home will alleviate the need to race to a gym or studio after work with your child and wait. With the personal trainer in the home, precious time is saved by not racing around spending gas and time to get to a gym.

Having a personal fitness trainer come direct allows you to monitor the sessions and see exactly how your child is doing with fitness and grasping the concepts of exercise. Some personal training companies, like Team Fitness America, will permit you to workout with your teen for no additional charge. So spending time with your child and working out together can be fun, plus it is like getting a whole workout for yourself for free.

The personal trainer can help with nutrition and tell you what to prepare to lower your child’s blood pressure, weight and keep them on the right track. They can answer any questions regarding nutritional value of certain foods and how they affect teens versus adults. Some in home personal trainers can recommend recipes for you to try or even take you to the grocery store and help you shop for healthy nutritious meals.

Children that are already overweight and ashamed of their size will benefit from one on one instruction where they area not judged by their peers or made uncomfortable in a gym setting. A personal trainer can answer all of their questions and show them the proper techniques to exercise in a safe environment. Results in terms of weight loss and health will be quicker with one on one instruction and if a teen feels safe and secure they are more likely to continue to work out and exercise.

By having an in home personal trainer they can mentor your teen and instill nutritional and exercise values that will be carried throughout their adult years ensuring that they will have the tools necessary to make good healthy food choices and exercise on a weekly basis.

Lastly, in home personal trainers will make the workout fun for a teen. Adults are easier to entertain for an hour workout but teens need to have fun. An in home personal trainer can tailor the workout to each teen, from cones to hula hoops to weights or even zumba classes. If a teen thinks that a workout is fun, the hour will fly by and they are more likely to look forward to the next session that will be fun. Taking a class at a gym will not be tailored to a teen and they may find it boring and not want to work out. If teens associate boredom with exercise they will remain overweight.

The CDC reported that children that are fed nutritious food have a better attention span and higher grades. If the teen is eating fast food and not working out their mental functioning has been shown to be lower and their grades lower than that of teens that are fit and eat healthy. Having an in home personal trainer to teach them nutrition and exercise will increase their attention span and thus improve grades in the long run.

In home personal trainers can assist the entire family with exercise and nutrition goals. They specialize in everything from weight loss to toning to sports and conditioning. There are many benefits from having an in home personal trainer come direct to the house to assist the family in all their goals. From nutrition to meal planning to actual workouts, Team Fitness America can provide the entire family with a healthy plan that everyone can benefit from and at a reasonable cost.

“I look forward to going to work with him because he actually understands that exercise is a life change and even though he has to work hard at it, he wants to do it. He has more energy, looks fantastic and wants to be fit and healthy,” said Luria.

By changing his diet and adding exercises to his program, Turner feels he has made big changes in his life and he is happy having Luria as his trainer. Turner had this to say about winning a year of fitness training through Team Fitness America and working with Julie Luria as his trainer.

“I am very shocked and excited that I won,” Turner said.

“I have been striving to reach my goals all year long and now that I know I have an entire year of training I am even more motivated to keep going and get in great shape,” added Turner.

“Julie is really fantastic, pushes me in the right direction, and each week I meet more and more of my goals and it is because of her,” said Turner.

Team Fitness America has a wide variety of affordable, certified personal fitness trainers that get the job done time and time again and can help each individual meet their goals. Each trainer can help with the fitness component and Team Fitness America also provides meal planning, nutrition help and even offers phone weight loss coaching to assist with each person’s unique needs.

With all those services available, each person can customize a program to their needs. Some individuals want simply an in home personal fitness trainer to teach them how to exercise and workout. Some individuals need more motivation and custom meal planning based on the foods they like to eat, while others need more.

For Turner, the main focus was on the actual exercises and what to eat at certain times. Luria worked with him on total body conditioning so he saw both weight loss and muscle toning at the same time. She chose compound exercises and kept it fun. Unlike the boring gym training that is machine after boring machine, Luria provided Turner with fun exercises using cones, balls, bands, hoops and she made it interesting and challenging at the same time.

Team Fitness America 5 Hottest Trends In Weight Loss

The stars in Hollywood always seem to set the precedent for what is the hottest way to lose weight and get into shape. From Step Aerobics to Belly Dancing we have seen fads come and go over the years. Stars and celebs don’t spend a ton of money on large expensive equipment anymore and they seem to focus on the styles of exercises that get good solid results. Their bodies are lean and healthy and we see that on TV or Internet and we always want to know their ‘secrets’.

The interesting thing is that they don’t have secrets! They use exercises that trainers have used for years in different combinations and intervals and they stick to the workouts. Most Americans try something for a week or two and give up but as a celeb your body is your job so there is no room for error. Throughout this article, Team Fitness America provides the 5 hottest trends that require little or no money investment and can be done by using a certified personal trainer as your coach and mentor.

1. Running is back. In the 1970’s it was a staple in celeb workouts and was replaced by the famous Step classes in the 80’s. Now it is back and with celebs like Kate Holmes completing the New York marathon in five and a half hours, more and more people realize the benefits of running and cardio condition to get into shape. Over the years we have seen stars like Oprah and Lance Armstrong trend set the art of running long distances by training for and completing a marathon. Each celeb has prepared for such an event by hiring a personal trainer that can coach and condition them to the specifics of running and gear their bodies to burn the right amount of calories at the right time. Running specific trainers and ‘run coaches’ are available to handle nutrition questions, training questions and how to properly prepare the body for such an event that takes time, skill and cardio conditioning.

2. Slideboards are the newest rave for butt sculpting and leg sculpting. Jessica Biel and Valerie Garner are famous for using the slide board with their trainer. Their toned butts and thighs show that the Slideboard helps tone but not bulk up their muscles. The idea behind having a nice round butt hit when Jennifer Lopez came on the scene and we thought it was just good genetics. With the advent of the Slideboard now women all over can have a great toned butt that isn’t bulky or overly muscular. A lot of women have resisted doing squats and lunges because their thighs and glutes get too big and they can’t wear jeans. With the advent of the Slideboard, emphasis is purely on glutes and the nice round shape that women desire can be obtained.

3. H.I.T. workouts. These workouts purely focus on high intensity training (H.I.T.) and are done usually on a treadmill or stepper. Alternating 2 minutes of running, 2 minutes of walking or stepping over a period of 35 minutes to give the body a cardio shock or boost and increase the metabolic rate quickly to burn extra calories throughout a short span. No weights are used so toning the body does not come into play but the quick burst of high intense cardio workouts makes the body burn more calories quicker and faster. With H.I.T. workouts you will need to still do weights and core exercises for toning and shaping but if time and equipment are a factor these are easy quick bursts of exercises that the average person can fit in between doing a load of laundry and picking up the kids from soccer.

4. Circuit training using full body weight. Stars do not have time to do cardio, weights and play sports like a lot of Americans so they lump it into one quick workout and make the results more powerful. Alternating weight bearing exercises like squats and lunges with 2 minutes of cardio, like running or jogging in between sets keeps your heart rate up and your body constantly burning calories and fat. With circuit training you get to tone the body and the fat melts off the lean muscles that you are building quickly and save precious time by building all of the exercises into one workout rather than having to do 2 or 3 hours of weights and cardio each day.

5. Mat Pilates. Pilates combines lengthening and strengthens the muscles using the core body weight and sometimes a stability ball. The exercises are usually performed lying down and require a good mind body connection. Within two weeks you will notice marked improvement in balance, coordination and even start seeing cuts and ridges in the muscles of the stomach. While Pilates may seem hard at first, many people simply can’t grasp the roll up or the main exercises into the series, but with a ball and physical assistance from your personal trainer you will get the moves down in no time and start seeing great results.

With so many different styles of exercises advertized and so many different pieces of equipment to buy on the market fitness can seem overwhelming and daunting. A great in home personal trainer can measure your body fat, assist with your diet and nutrition and recommend the best exercise that will get you the results that you want in no time. As the celebs are, you must remain committed to the exercises plan and stick through it. For them this is a way of life and it should be for you too if you want a celeb fit body.

Team Fitness America 7 Tips For Weight Loss

We have all tried the fad diets that have helped us lose weight quickly but only to leave us with even faster weight gain. Many times we go the grocery store and we are overwhelmed by the marketing concepts to buy foods that we shouldn’t eat. We see “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” in the brownie isle or the chip isle and we think that we are saving money if we get 2 bags of chips for the price of one. In reality we are being encouraged to eat more of the junk food and less of the healthy food. When was the last time you saw “Buy 1 get 1 Free” on bananas? Or a head of lettuce? Probably never at the supermarket, but you can buy all the fruit punch and brownies you can consume.

We budget while having a spending amount in mind and most of us always go over that once we start adding junk food into our carts. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 67% of Americans are overweight. So leave those chips and brownies in the aisle and move on.

Here are 7 tips from Team Fitness America to keep your diet on track and actually lose weight when feeding both yourself and your family.

1. Make a grocery list before you enter the store and stick to it. Too many times we get caught up in the items on display that we don’t really need but look great. Grab the grocery circular before you hit the store and make a list of what you need for this week’s meals. Resist the urge to impulse buy once you walk in the doors. This will only sabotage your diet and make you feel guilty later.

2. Once you walk in the door with list in hand, avoid the bakery. Most bakeries are situated near the front door for a reason. They smell good and you find yourself standing at the glass case thinking “one donut can’t hurt” or that loaf of fresh pepperoni bread smells so good you find it in your cart. Simply skip this section, if you have impulse control problems (i.e.: I MUST have it) avoid the section altogether. It will be less tempting if you do.

3. Avoid all prepackaged items. Canned goods, frozen pizza, chicken nuggets and other quick cook meals are full of fat, salt, sugar and carbs. Prepare easy quick meals at home with lean ground turkey, lean ground beef, chicken breasts and frozen veggies. The most expensive items in a grocery are the prepackaged, quick cook items and the most likely to sabotage your diet.

4. Shop in reverse. The grocery store is laid out so you spend money; they are not in the business of keeping you thin but making money. So look at your list and know how much you want to spend at the store and start in the meat isle. Meats should be your most expensive item in your cart. Pick your lean meats and add up the cost. Skip the prepackaged chicken nuggets and grab a bag of frozen chicken breasts instead. Sure you may have to cook it and spice it up but it saves you calories, fat and money. The extra 30 minutes you spend today is worth it. Hit the produce isle next and fill your cart with fresh and frozen veggies. Rice, potatoes and bread isles next and you have complete meals. Last should be your dairy and drinks. Look for fat free milk and either unsweetened teas or diet sodas.

5. Eat before you go to the store. This is one tip that we have heard for years. Never go hungry because everything will look good as you stand there starving.

6. Self Check Out. If you actually have to scan your own items and watch the cost go up you will be less likely to want to pay $8.99 for that cheesecake when you think about how it will not only affect your health but your wallet. You will also be more inclined to stick to your budget if you watch and have to manually scan each item that you purchase.

Keep these tips in mind when visiting the grocery store and you will remain on your diet and feed your family for less. With the extra money you save you can buy a personal trainer for the week and ultimately new outfits that you will fit into once you continue on your diet and fitness plan!
